The Song – Free Fallin
Tom Petty is always a crowd favorite and this is probably one of the easiest songs of his to sing and play.
The big trick with this song is playing it with the capo on the third fret, starting in the D position. You can play it straight up in F, however the chords don’t just sound right. Listen for the inflections of the song.
When I play this song, I can change the feel with just in the way I play the progression. At times i play it slow, just letting the chords ring, other times I strum the rhythm in a full and meaningful sense. Definitely listen to the song and play along a few times to really get a good feel.
